Beef Stroganoff

Here’s a simple, classic Beef Stroganoff that’s easy and comforting 🍲

Beef Stroganoff (Stovetop)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or stew meat, sliced thin
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Cooked egg noodles or rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef
    Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper, then brown quickly (about 2–3 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. Cook veggies
    In the same pan, add onion and mushrooms. Cook until soft (5–7 minutes). Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Make the sauce
    Sprinkle flour over veggies and stir. Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring until smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Simmer
    Let sauce simmer 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Finish
    Lower heat. Stir in sour cream, then add beef back in. Heat gently (don’t boil).
  6. Serve
    Spoon over egg noodles or rice.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra creamy: Add a splash of milk or cream with the sour cream
  • No mushrooms: Leave them out—it still works
  • Crockpot version: I can share that if you want
  • Add-ins: Peas or spinach at the end for color
