Here’s a simple, classic Beef Stroganoff that’s easy and comforting 🍲
Beef Stroganoff (Stovetop)
Ingredients
- 1 lb beef sirloin or stew meat, sliced thin
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Cooked egg noodles or rice, for serving
Instructions
- Brown the beef
Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper, then brown quickly (about 2–3 minutes). Remove and set aside. - Cook veggies
In the same pan, add onion and mushrooms. Cook until soft (5–7 minutes). Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. - Make the sauce
Sprinkle flour over veggies and stir. Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring until smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce. - Simmer
Let sauce simmer 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened. - Finish
Lower heat. Stir in sour cream, then add beef back in. Heat gently (don’t boil). - Serve
Spoon over egg noodles or rice.
Tips & Variations
- Extra creamy: Add a splash of milk or cream with the sour cream
- No mushrooms: Leave them out—it still works
