Old fashioned hershey cocoa fudge

Posted on January 4, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic, old-fashioned Hershey’s cocoa fudge recipe 🍫—rich, chocolatey, and perfectly creamy.

Old-Fashioned Hershey Cocoa Fudge

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup Hershey’s cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Prepare pan
    • Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper or lightly butter it.
  2. Combine ingredients
    • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, cocoa, and salt.
  3. Cook
    • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
    • Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Cool slightly
    • Remove from heat and let it sit 5 minutes.
  5. Add vanilla
    • Stir in vanilla (and nuts if using). Beat with a wooden spoon until fudge starts to lose its gloss and thickens slightly.
  6. Pour and set
    • Pour into prepared pan and smooth the top.
    • Let cool at room temperature, then refrigerate 1–2 hours until firm.
  7. Cut and serve
    • Lift from pan and cut into squares. Store in an airtight container.

Tips

  • Don’t overcook—fudge can turn grainy if boiled too long.
  • For extra creaminess, add 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk while cooking.
  • Stir gently when adding vanilla to keep the fudge smooth.

If you want, I can give a microwave version that makes fudge in 10 minutes with the same rich Hershey flavor.

Do you want me to do that?
