  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Mashed potato topping

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ¼–½ cup milk
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the mashed potatoes
    • Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15–20 minutes).
    • Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cook the filling
    • Brown ground meat in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add onion and garlic; cook until soft.
    • Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire (if using), salt, and pepper.
    • Add peas and carrots. Simmer 5 minutes until slightly thick.
  3. Assemble
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
    • Spread meat mixture into a baking dish.
    • Spoon mashed potatoes on top and spread evenly.
    • Use a fork to make ridges on top.
  4. Bake

Optional Add-Ins

  • 🧀 Sprinkle shredded cheese on the potatoes
  • 🌿 Add chopped herbs (thyme or parsley)
  • 🥩 Add mushrooms to the meat for extra flavor
