American Goulash
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
- 1–1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook beef
- In a large skillet or pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
- Drain excess fat.
- Add onions & garlic
- Sauté onion and garlic until soft (about 3–4 minutes).
- Add liquids & seasoning
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a boil.
- Cook pasta
- Add uncooked elbow macaroni.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
- Add cheese
- Stir in shredded cheddar until melted and creamy.
- Serve
- Serve hot, optionally topped with extra cheese or chopped parsley.
Tips
- Add bell peppers, mushrooms, or peas for extra veggies.
- Mix cheeses (cheddar + mozzarella) for richer flavor.
- Leftovers store well and taste great reheated.
