Ingredients
Filling
- 200 g (7 oz) ground beef
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger (optional but recommended)
- 1½ tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1–2 tbsp water (keeps filling juicy)
Wrappers
- 30 wonton wrappers
- Water for sealing
Instructions
1. Make the filling
Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl until well combined and slightly sticky.
2. Fill & fold
- Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center of each wrapper
- Wet edges with water
- Fold into a triangle and press to seal
- Bring the two corners together and pinch (classic wonton shape)
3. Cook (choose one)
Boiled (best for soup):
- Boil gently for 4–5 minutes until wontons float and beef is cooked
Pan-fried:
- Fry in a little oil until bottoms are golden
- Add a splash of water, cover, steam 2–3 minutes
Deep-fried:
- Fry at 175°C / 350°F until golden and crispy
Quick Wonton Soup
- Chicken or beef broth
- Splash of soy sauce
- Few drops sesame oil
- Add cooked wontons and green onions
Tips
- Beef works best if it’s not too lean (80/20 is ideal)
- Freeze uncooked wontons for later
