Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup honey
- Pinch of salt
Mix until smooth and fluffy. Set aside.
Instructions
1. Make the batter
- In a bowl, whisk cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and honey.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients just until mixed (don’t overmix).
2. Fry the poppers
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil.
- Fry 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
3. Finish
- Brush poppers generously with honey butter while warm
- Or drizzle extra honey on top (Southern-approved 😏)
