Hard-boiled egg

Posted on February 4, 2026 by Admin

Ah yes—the perfect hard-boiled egg 🥚. Easy once you know the trick. Here’s a foolproof method that gives you fully set whites and creamy (not gray!) yolks.

Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs

Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Instructions (Stovetop Method)

  1. Start cold
Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Add cold water to cover eggs by about 1 inch.
  2. Bring to a boil
Heat uncovered on high. Once you reach a rolling boil, cover and turn off the heat.
  3. Let sit
Leave eggs in hot water for:

    • 10 minutes for fully set yolks
    • 12 minutes for extra-firm yolks
  4. Ice bath
Transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath for 5 minutes. This stops cooking and makes peeling easier.
  5. Peel or store
Tap, roll, and peel—or store unpeeled in the fridge.

Peeling Tips (Game-Changers)

  • Use older eggs (they peel easier than super-fresh ones)
  • Crack the wide end first (air pocket lives there)
  • Peel under running water

Storage

  • Unpeeled: up to 7 days in the fridge
  • Peeled: 2–3 days in an airtight container

Bonus Methods

🔥 Instant Pot: 5–5–5 method
🍳 Air fryer: 270°F for 15–17 minutes
⏱️ No-peel baking trick: add 1 tsp baking soda to water
