Baked apple fritters

Posted on February 23, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious way to make baked apple fritters—less greasy than the fried version but still soft, sweet, and full of apple flavor.

Baked Apple Fritters

Ingredients (makes about 8–10 fritters):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced small (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or vegetable oil

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter.
  4. Combine batter: Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix. Fold in the diced apples.
  5. Shape fritters: Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each.
  6. Bake: 15–20 minutes, or until fritters are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Optional glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm fritters or dip them in the glaze.
  8. Serve: Enjoy warm with coffee, tea, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

💡 Tips:

  • For extra texture, toss apple pieces in a teaspoon of cinnamon sugar before folding them in.
  • You can add a handful of chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) for a nutty crunch.
  • Make mini fritters for bite-sized treats—great for kids or parties.

If you want, I can also give a cinnamon sugar baked version that tastes almost like churros—crispy outside, tender inside. Do you want that?
