Apple cake

Here’s a soft, moist Apple Cake that’s simple and reliable — perfect for fall or anytime you have extra apples.


🍎 Classic Apple Cake

Ingredients (Serves 8–10)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 2½ cups peeled and diced apples (about 3 medium apples)
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Mix wet ingredients:
    In a large bowl, whisk oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
    Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla and sour cream.
  4. Combine:
    Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
    Fold in apples (and nuts if using).
  5. Bake:
    Pour batter into prepared pan.
    Bake 40–50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool & serve:
    Let cool 15 minutes before removing from pan.
    Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Streusel topping (brown sugar + butter + flour)
  • Cream cheese frosting
  • Add raisins for extra sweetness
