Candied Walnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnut halves
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar for deeper flavor)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, adds aroma)

Instructions

  1. Toast the walnuts
    In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast walnuts for 3–5 minutes until fragrant. Stir constantly to avoid burning.
  2. Make the candy coating
    Lower heat to medium-low. Add butter, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir constantly until sugar melts and coats the walnuts (~3–4 minutes).
  3. Add vanilla
    Stir in vanilla extract if using, then remove from heat.
  4. Cool
    Spread walnuts on parchment paper or a silicone mat to cool completely. They’ll crisp up as they cool.
