American Goulash
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 1–1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook beef
- In a large skillet or pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.
- Drain excess fat.
- Add veggies & seasonings
- Sauté onion and garlic until soft.
- Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Add liquids & pasta
- Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and broth.
- Bring to a boil.
- Stir in uncooked elbow macaroni.
- Simmer
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
- Add cheese
- Stir in shredded cheddar until melted and creamy.
- Serve
- Serve hot, optionally topped with extra cheese or chopped parsley.
Tips
- Use a mix of cheeses for extra flavor.
- Can add bell peppers, mushrooms, or peas for veggies.
- Leftovers taste great the next day and reheat well.
