Here’s an easy homemade baked beans recipe 🍲
(Simple, cozy, and way better than canned.)
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked white beans (navy, cannellini, or great northern)
(or 2 cans, drained and rinsed) - ½ onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup tomato sauce or ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp molasses (optional but classic)
- 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ cup water or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F / 175°C.
- In a bowl, mix tomato sauce, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.
- Add beans and onion, stir to coat.
- Transfer to a baking dish and add water/broth.
- Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake 15–30 more minutes until thick and saucy.
Quick stovetop version
- Simmer everything in a saucepan on low heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Optional add-ins
- Smoked paprika for a smoky flavor
- Maple syrup instead of sugar
- A pinch of chili powder for mild heat
