🥄 Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast (Serves 3–4)

Ingredients

  • 4 oz dried or jarred chipped beef (sliced thin)
  • 2 tbsp butter

  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg
  • 4–6 slices of bread, toasted

Instructions

  1. Prep beef
    • Rinse chipped beef briefly to remove excess salt. Pat dry.
    • Cut into small bite-sized pieces.
  2. Make roux
    • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until slightly bubbly.
  3. Add milk
    • Slowly whisk in milk to avoid lumps.
    • Cook until mixture thickens (3–5 minutes).
  4. Add beef & season
    • Stir in chipped beef.
    • Season with pepper (be careful with salt—it’s already salty!)
    • Optional: add a pinch of nutmeg for warmth.
  5. Serve
    • Spoon over toasted bread.
    • Optional: sprinkle with extra black pepper.
