Here’s a classic Patty Melt recipe 🥪🥩🧀
A delicious cross between a burger and a grilled cheese.
Patty Melt
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices rye bread (or your favorite)
- 4 slices cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or your choice)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Cook onions
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions in 1 tablespoon butter until caramelized (about 10–12 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- Form patties
- Shape ground beef into 4 thin patties, slightly larger than your bread.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook patties
- In the same skillet, cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until done.
- Assemble
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- On the unbuttered side, layer: cheese, beef patty, caramelized onions, cheese.
- Top with another bread slice (buttered side out).
- Grill
- Cook in a skillet over medium heat, pressing lightly, 3–4 minutes per side, until bread is golden and cheese melts.
- Serve
- Slice in half and serve hot.
Tips
- Thin patties help the sandwich cook evenly.
- Use a lid while grilling to help melt the cheese faster.
- Add mustard or pickles for extra flavor.
If you want a mini slider version, with special sauce, or extra-cheesy, I can give that variation too.
