Patty melt

Here’s a classic Patty Melt recipe 🥪🥩🧀
A delicious cross between a burger and a grilled cheese.


Patty Melt

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices rye bread (or your favorite)
  • 4 slices cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or your choice)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Cook onions
    • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions in 1 tablespoon butter until caramelized (about 10–12 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. Form patties
    • Shape ground beef into 4 thin patties, slightly larger than your bread.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook patties
    • In the same skillet, cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until done.
  4. Assemble
    • Butter one side of each bread slice.
    • On the unbuttered side, layer: cheese, beef patty, caramelized onions, cheese.
    • Top with another bread slice (buttered side out).
  5. Grill
    • Cook in a skillet over medium heat, pressing lightly, 3–4 minutes per side, until bread is golden and cheese melts.
  6. Serve
    • Slice in half and serve hot.

Tips

  • Thin patties help the sandwich cook evenly.
  • Use a lid while grilling to help melt the cheese faster.
  • Add mustard or pickles for extra flavor.
