Shepherd’s Pie
Ingredients
Meat filling
- 1 lb ground lamb (traditional — ground beef works too)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Mashed potato topping
- 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ¼–½ cup milk
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Make the mashed potatoes
- Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15–20 minutes).
- Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt. Set aside.
- Cook the filling
- Brown ground meat in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and garlic; cook until soft.
- Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Add peas and carrots. Simmer 5 minutes until slightly thick.
- Assemble
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
- Spread meat mixture into a baking dish.
- Spoon mashed potatoes on top and spread evenly.
- Use a fork to make ridges on top.
- Bake
- Bake 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.
- Serve
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Optional Add-Ins

- 🌿 Add chopped herbs (thyme or parsley)
