spinach and cheese puff pastry squares

Posted on January 3, 2026 by Admin

Oh, yes! Spinach and cheese puff pastry squares are delicious, flaky, and perfect as a snack or appetizer. Here’s a simple recipe you can follow:

🌿 Spinach and Cheese Puff Pastry Squares

Servings: 4–6
Time: 25–30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 cup fresh spinach (or frozen, thawed & squeezed dry)
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese (or cream cheese)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or feta for extra flavor)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil or butter, for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the filling:
    • Heat a little olive oil or butter in a pan.
    • Sauté onion until soft, then add garlic and spinach. Cook until spinach is wilted.
    • Let it cool slightly.
    • Mix in ricotta and mozzarella cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare the puff pastry:
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut into squares (about 3×3 inches).
  4. Assemble the squares:
    • Spoon a small amount of the spinach-cheese mixture onto the center of each square.
    • Fold the squares in half or just leave open-faced for a tart-like look.
    • Brush the edges with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  5. Bake:
    • Place the squares on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
  6. Serve:
    • Let them cool slightly, then enjoy warm!

💡 Tips:

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for extra flavor.
  • You can sprinkle sesame seeds or grated Parmesan on top before baking for a fancy touch.

If you want, I can also give you a quick shortcut version that uses frozen spinach and ready-made puff pastry, which takes only about 15 minutes to bake.

Do you want me to do that?
