Sweet potato pie

Here’s a classic Sweet Potato Pie—smooth, warmly spiced, and perfect for dessert 🥧

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2–3 medium, cooked)
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • ¾ cup sugar (white or half white/half brown)
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt

Crust:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook sweet potatoes (boil or bake) until tender. Peel and mash until smooth.
  3. In a bowl, mix butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla.
  4. Stir in mashed sweet potatoes, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  5. Pour filling into pie crust.
  6. Bake 50–55 minutes, until the center is set.
  7. Cool completely before slicing (it firms up as it cools).

Tips & Variations

  • Extra flavor: Add ¼ tsp ground ginger or cloves.
  • Creamier texture: Use heavy cream instead of evaporated milk.
  • Topping ideas: Whipped cream or toasted marshmallows.
