White eggs

Posted on February 4, 2026 by Admin

White eggs 🥚 are super common and totally misunderstood, so let’s clear it up.

White Eggs — What to Know

Where they come from

  • Laid by white-feathered chickens with white earlobes
  • Brown eggs come from red/brown-feathered hens
👉 Shell color is genetic, not nutritional

Are white eggs healthier than brown?

Nope.

  • Same nutrition as brown eggs
  • Same protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals
  • Shell color does not affect taste or quality

Why are white eggs cheaper?

  • White egg–laying chickens are usually smaller
  • They eat less feed
  • Lower production cost = lower price

Taste & cooking

  • Taste difference depends on the hen’s diet, not shell color
  • Cook exactly the same:
    • Scrambled
    • Fried
    • Boiled
    • Baking

Freshness tips

  • Fresh eggs sink in water
  • Older eggs float (air pocket gets bigger)
  • Store eggs in the carton, not the door, for freshness

Fun fact

  • Eggshell color doesn’t affect yolk color either
  • Deep yellow or orange yolks come from hens eating things like corn, marigold, or greens
